Some of the more active options include vvhitewater
rafting, ocean and mangrove kayaking, rainforest canopy ziplines,
jet ski coastal tours. parasailing, mountain biking, horseback
riding on the beach or to rainforest waterfalls, surfing or body
surfing, jogging, hiking, swimming, and sport fishing. All of these
sports offer a range of challenge from easy to vigorous. A beautiful
golf course is located at a Mariott property about an hour's drive
from Villa La Macha. Bird-watching expeditions, trips to a botanical butterfly garden, and sunset cruises are other outdoor options in the area. Excellent therapeutic masseurs and masseuses are available to give you a restorative massage at Villa La Macha. Two exhilarating and informative rainforest experiences are available for the whole family, except for very young children. These are the Rainmaker tour and the Zipline tour. Rainmaker provides lunch and guided walks on a trail that climbs through a 1,500-acre private reserve in a mountain range near Quepos. A system of rope bridges suspended from tree trunks (constructed to U.S. bridge engineering codes) enable visitors to walk from platform to platform across the canopy of the rainforest. Some of the bridges are up to 300 feet long and the experience is very exciting. A large variety of animal life can be viewed from the treetops and on the well-constructed trail. After descending, visitors can swim in a crystal clear river, after which a typical Costa Rican lunch is provided. The Zip Line tour is much less informative but a great deal of fun. Steel cables are strung from tree to tree in a private rainforest preserve. A harness and pulley are attached to each person and you step off platforms lashed to trees to zip across the rainforest canopy, Tarzan-like. Sport fishing in the waters off Quepos is among the best in the world. The prime fishing season is December to April and marlin and sailfish are the two major targets. Dorado, wahoo, amberjack and yellowfin tuna are also plentiful. More than 40 fully equipped sport fishing boats of various sizes are available for charter, most year around, for fishing, sightseeing, snorkeling or diving. Most captains are very experienced and know where to find the fish, and we can recommend our personal favorites among the captains. There are several good Spanish language schools of offering half-day classes on a weekly basis. One school will send a teacher to Villa La Macha to give private lessons.
